Update: Forecasting for Next Year:

posted May 19, 2020, 2:09 PM by Lori Cowan-Lane

Dear Bowmen Family,

While we are still living in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and though there is still much uncertainty about what the future holds, we are deciding to start to move forward with plans for next school year.  One of the first steps in that process is making sure that the courses that you chose for the 2020-2021 school year are still accurate.

Current 9th-11th Grade Reforecasting Message

The Course Request screen in StudentVue will reopen on Tuesday, May 19th and will remain open until midnight on Tuesday, May 26th.  During this week, please take the time to access your forecasting and ensure that it is an accurate representation of the courses you would like for next school year.

Some Things to Keep in Mind...

  • If you signed up for a class for the third trimester that you didn’t have the opportunity to take, you may forecast for that class again.

  • After you have reviewed your forecasting, please click the “LOCK” button on the screen.

As the video stated, while we will do everything in our power to offer all courses and build a schedule that honors all student course requests, it is important to know that there are many unknowns that will impact our course offerings for the 2020-2021 school year.  Even though you request a course, please know that you may not see that course in your schedule next Fall.

Below are resources to help you check your forecasting.  Also, feel free to reach out to your counselor with any questions you may have.

Thank you for taking the time to do this for us and I’m so excited to be talking with you about next school year.  I hope you are all well!

Dear Class of 2020 and Families,

I’m excited to be able to share with you details about our Sherwood High School Graduation Week!  As you know, we have been diligently working to develop the best possible plan for honoring each member of our senior class given our current reality and the limitations that it brings.  This has not been an easy process for any of us.  We have had to work through knowing that what should have been happening was not going to happen...and that has been hard.  I am truly sorry for that, but I hope that what we have done and what we will continue to do demonstrates our care for each of you.  So, without further ado:

In order to maintain social distancing guidelines, please follow the route outlined below upon your arrival.  Also, please keep the following important points in mind:

  • The time: 10:00am to 2:00pm

  • Please stay in your vehicle

  • Orders need to be paid-in-full to be picked up.  Payments can be made by calling 1.800.567.8367.  We can take payment at the delivery but only with cards or cash but it will slow us up if too many wait to pay at the pick-up.

  • Families/Seniors should put a name (first & last) on a piece of paper and tape it to the inside of the car window on the front passenger side

  • If you are unable to attend the event, please know that families/students can pick up for other families/students. Please bring a note stating (for example): “Dan Peters is picking up for Stephanie Scanlan.”  This will help us keep track.

  • After this opportunity, please set an appointment to come by the Jostens office to pick up your order.

  • Jostens will notify you directly if you have items to pick up on Tuesday. Some orders may still be in transit.  If you still need to order visit or call 1.800.JOSTENS (567.8367).

Last Reminder- Please bring any/all school materials back on 4/28 if you no longer need them (this includes Chromebooks, chargers, textbooks, library books, etc.)

Grades 9-11 Materials Pick-up and Drop-off:

posted Apr 25, 2020, 8:14 AM by Lori Cowan-Lane

On Wednesday, 4/29, from 12pm to 4pm, and Thursday, 4/30, from 8am to 12pm, we will be conducting a Student Materials Distribution and Collection event at the high school for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. This will be the only chance to collect items back before we move to the new building. All items not picked up will be packed for the summer and available to retrieve in August when the high school reopens.

During the event, following social distancing guidelines is of the utmost importance. Students and families will enter by car through the bus entrance of the high school (on the north west corner of the property near the auxiliary soccer field) and will stay in the vehicle the entire time. Once you enter the school grounds, there will be a path to follow to the front of the school where students will hand back anything that they have to return and receive their items that were left in the building. Our staff will be on hand to facilitate the process and will be wearing masks and gloves at all times. We ask that due to the proximity these transactions will create, please wear protective equipment as well.

Please use the following time slots to drop-off or pick-up your materials:

  • Wednesday
    • Last names A-K - 12pm to 2pm
    • Last names L-Z - 2pm to 4pm
  • Thursday
    • Last names A-K - 8am to 10am
    • Last names L-Z - 10am to 12pm

The list below are general items that will be returned or collected, and teachers will email students directly with details on specific items.

General items to be distributed to students:

  • Items from student lockers
    • IMPORTANT - Please make every effort to know your locker number. Locker numbers are visible on the "Student Info" tab of Student/ParentVUE.
  • Items from PE lockers and team rooms
    • IMPORTANT - Please make every effort to know your PE and Team Room locker number and location.
  • Student created materials from Art, Poetry, Science, and other courses
  • Shop clothing
  • Various other materials

General items to be collected from students:

  • Sports uniforms
    • Please ensure that the uniforms are clean, in a bag, and labeled with the student's name and sport
  • Textbooks that are not being used in current courses
  • Language Arts novel sets that are not being used
  • Photography equipment (except AP Photo students)
  • Anything else that students feel should be returned to the school

We thank you in advance for your patience as we do our best to make this process as efficient as possible in these unprecedented times. We look forward to seeing you next week!

Dear Bowmen Families,

I hope this finds you all well.  Thank you to everyone who came out on Friday for the parade- it made my heart so happy to see you all!

Now that we are starting to get into the rhythm of Distance Learning, I wanted to let you know that we are going to move back to our once per week communication.  Of course, if something comes up that I need you to know, I will obviously get that out to you, but as of now, please know that after today, we will move back to a weekly, Friday communication.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or need anything.  Have a great week!

Fee Refunds

Beginning on Monday, we will begin refunding activity/athletics/course/nutrition services fees and balances to seniors.  Current 9th-11th grade families will receive a form asking how they would like the school/district to process fees and balances.  The form should be ready to go out to families by the end of the week. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Parent Access to Canvas

Please use the link to access Canvas.  If you have any questions, please contact either Sarah Grider or Tracie Harbick ( or

Locker Pick-Up/Materials Pick-up

We are in the process of cleaning out lockers and bagging up contents for retrieval by students/families.  We will send out details about the pick-up plan early this week.

Grading/Reporting Updates

Last Thursday, the Oregon Department of Education released additional guidance about how we must grade/report for Distance Learning courses for our 9th-11th grade students.  Moving forward, instead of the A/NG that we originally planned to use for grades this trimester, we will now align to the state expectations and use Pass/No Grade (P/NG) as the marks on our transcripts.  All high school courses will be graded/reported using this scale including AP and Dual Credit courses.

Facilities Closed

As a reminder, all Sherwood School District buildings and properties are closed for the duration of our school closure.  This includes playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts, etc. We encourage compliance with statewide social distancing guidelines, and ask that students, families, and community members not to access closed facilities for their own safety and the safety of others.
