Jim Winkler

After six years as the Youth Transition Program Specialist at SHS, Mr. Winkler ("Coach" to students) joined our team in 2014-15 as a full-time learning specialist. 

A native of Sherwood, OR and alumni of SHS, Coach is passionate about giving back to a community that gave so much to him as a child. In addition to teaching, Winkler returns for a seventh year as a varsity football coach for the Bowmen.

With direct assistance from our wonderful instructional assistants, Coach teaches Functional Math, Language Arts, Functional Science, Life Skills/Vocational Education. 

Mr. Winkler and his family currently reside in Newberg, OR.

Our Classroom

The Skills Center consists of a functional life skills classroom that contains a full kitchen and laundry, a sensory room, and our own private ADA bathroom. A traditional academic classroom is linked by a staff work room in between. Students receive specially designed instruction in both classrooms.

Our Team

Our team currently consists of one full-time learning specialist, a half-time learning specialist, and eight of the most talented instructional assistants on the planet! Our team is passionate about serving students who experience disabilities and other barriers, by helping them access a free and appropriate public educational experience, building academic skills, functional life skills, while fostering independence.

Our Specialists

Sherwood high school currently has one speech pathologist that works in conjunction with the skills center for direct and consultation services. Sherwood school district currently contracts with Northwest Regional ESD, where occupational therapy, physical therapy and ASD specialists provide direct and consultation services.

 Erin Olsvik

Erin grew up in Aloha, Oregon and graduated from Aloha High School before attending Oregon State University.  Through her sorority and as a member of the student government she was involved in many campus activities and fundraisers. 
Erin enjoys cheering on the Beavers and attending football games in Corvallis. After college she earned her Master's Degree from Pacific University and began working in Special Education in 2006. 

Prior to joining our team, Erin taught at David Douglas School District's transition program, where she served 18-21 year students.

Erin is married and has a son, Benjamin.  On her free time she enjoys being with family and friends, cooking and reading.
