1. How do I join MEChA?
  • Attend our meetings every other Wednesday in W-4, Ms. Yabu's room.  Please see the MEChA Calendar for specific meeting dates.  
2. What are the benefits of joining MEChA?
  • Each week in MEChA we will learn a little bit about a Spanish speaking country- fun facts, cultural tidbits, and other interesting information.
  • You will meet new people and build new relationships.
  • Practice your language skills.  Our meetings are conducted in both Spanish and English!
  • Attend the Cesar Chavez Leadership Conference at Western Oregon University.
3. What is the Cesar Chavez Leadership Conference?
  • The Cesar Chavez Leadership Conference is an event that is held each year on the campus of Western Oregon University in  Monmouth, Oregon.
  • At the conference, you will hear a variety of motivational speakers who specialize in inspiring and motivating chicano/a, latino/a, and hispanic youth.
  • You will attend a variety of workshops meant to expose students to the variety of opportunities available for latino students after high school, in college, and after college.
  • Attend a college fair where you can pick up valuable information regarding scholarships and special programs at a variety of 2 and 4 year universities.
  • You must attend at least 5 meetings and complete the service hour requirement (see below) in order to attend the Cesar Chavez Leadership Conference with the MEChA Club!
4. Do you require community service hours?
  • Yes!  You are required to complete 10 hours of community service in order to attend the Cesar Chavez Leadership Conference.  The service hours are due one week before the leadership conference in March.
