Weekly Newsletter #7

October 16, 2020

Dear Bowmen Community,

I hope you had a great week and are enjoying the beautiful fall weather.  Below is the message for this week:

Principal’s Message 10/16/2020

Have a wonderful weekend!

Melissa Baran

Homecoming 2020 is next week!

We have a variety of activities throughout the week:

We’ll be doing Spirit Days along with daily activity challenges and movie themes. If you participate in any of the daily activities or challenges, take a photo and post it on your Instagram and tag @sherwood_bowmen for a chance to win a Dutch Bro’s gift card each day. If you don’t have social media, there will be an opportunity for your Homeroom to enter a drawing as well.

Homecoming Spirit Week Actvities

Next Friday, October 23rd we will be having our Homecoming Parade! The Parade will begin at 3:30pm from the Sherwood Charter School and go to SMS (the old high school). All participants must wear a mask and practice social distancing!

Happy Homecoming!

Homecoming Variety Show Livestream!

In lieu of a Homecoming dance, this year we will present a new event: The HoCo Variety Show!  This staff and student Variety Show will premiere LIVE on October 23rd, at 7pm on YouTube and will run around an hour and a half.  We will post the link on the SHS website late next week.  We hope you can tune in to witness some magical musical numbers, family friendly trivia, and best of all the Homecoming King and Queen Crowning!

MOD Pizza Fundraiser Benefiting Sherwood Band Programs

The Sherwood Band Boosters invite you to participate in our MOD Pizza Fundraiser – all day, Tuesday, October 20th. 20% of your lunch or dinner order will go to Sherwood Band Programs. Show the flier or use the promo code GR161956S on your online order. Thank you for supporting Sherwood Band Programs!

Helpful Canvas Resources

Here are some general Canvas Guides that may be helpful to students and parents/guardians.

Conferences – 10/19

Conferences are Monday, October 19th from 5pm-8pm. If you missed the deadline to sign up, please contact teachers directly. Teacher contact information can be found on their respective Canvas pages.

AP Fees 2020-2021 – 10/23

This year the fee for each AP Exam is $95.  This is an increase from $69 last year for two reasons:

  1. Collegeboard increased the fee from $94 to $95.
  2. The State of Oregon subsidized all AP exams $25 last year and those funds are not available this year.

If this fee is concerning for your family there are a couple options:

  1. If your student is on a Free and Reduced Meal plan, the fee is automatically waived.  We need to know that your student is on this plan as privacy laws do not allow sharing of that information between departments.
  2. Payment plans are always an option.  Contact Debi Bear to set up a payment plan that will work for your family.
  3. There are limited funds available for those who need them.  Contact Scott Hadden or Becky Farwell to be considered for this help.

This fee is due October 23rd, 2020.  If the timing is an issue, please consider setting up a payment plan or contacting Scott Hadden or Becky Farwell for assistance.  We truly desire that this AP fee not be an additional cause for stress in our stressful world. If you have any questions please contact Becky Farwell at bfarwell@sherwood.k12.or.us.

2020 Sherwood High School Booster Club Auction – 11/7

The Sherwood High School Booster Club would like to invite you to join us for our annual auction.  Over the last 19 years we have been able to provide over $500,000 for SHS Athletic teams. Since we cannot meet in person this year it will be held virtually. Online auction items will be available November 1st.  The live stream event will start November 7th with a preshow at 6:45pm and auction starting at 7:00pm. Please RSVP for more information at sherwoodboosterclub.com.
