Weekly Newsletter #13

December 4, 2020

Dear Bowmen Community,

As we enter December, I can’t help but think about all we’ve experienced in the last year while also considering all that is to come in our future.  I truly look forward to what we will create together and I’m excited for what is to come.

Principal’s Message 12/4/2020
(Information from the video is outlined below in writing)

Below is a short form where I am hoping to gather some thoughts and feedback from each of you about our school vision for the future.  We have a unique opportunity to truly imagine and create an educational experience that serves each of our students well and I would love to partner with you on that.  If you have a few minutes, please take some time to complete the form and/or reach out to me if you would like to talk!

Quarter Two Check-In

We are about three weeks into Quarter Two, and I want to encourage everyone to take a moment to check in on grades and course progress.  One of the many lessons learned from Quarter One is that time moves much more quickly in the quarter system and without frequent and early intervention, we found that it was more challenging for several students to stay on track.  Please take some time this weekend and next week to login to ParentVue or StudentVue to look at grades/progress and to directly contact teachers with questions/concerns.

Textbooks/Materials Pick-Up

We will continue our consistent Tuesday/Thursday pick-up schedule moving forward.  As long as we are able to do so safely and within health guidelines, we will continue this for the foreseeable future.  If you have any questions, please contact our Main Office.

Cancer Awareness Week + Food Drive

Next week is Cancer Awareness Week and our Annual Food Drive!

Our Cancer charity this year is Candlelighters for Children with Cancer. Candlelighters provide support for families in Oregon and SW Washington impacted by childhood cancer. From diagnosis through treatment and beyond, they provide programs such as emergency financial assistance, an annual family camp, family activities, bereavement support, and a hospital meal program that offers comfort and support for families during a difficult journey. Through it all, they never charge families a dime.

Cancer Awareness Week

Here are the dress-up days for the week:

Skin Cancer

Prostate Cancer

Breast Cancer

Thyroid Cancer

Fundraising for Cancer Awareness Week will look a bit different this year since we’re not in the classroom. We will be using Pay-for-it to collect donations, and using bingo cards for different amounts of money so that you can earn prizes for participating! To make a donation, click this link – https://payforit.net/MakeItemPaymentEx.aspx – select Oregon, OR – Sherwood, Sherwood High School, and then the amount you would like to donate (you can write the name of the person you are donating on behalf of in the note section).

There will be another scavenger hunt as well! So keep your eye on your email for the code and how to participate!

We will also be combining our Annual Food Drive with Cancer Awareness Week this year! The Food Drive will run from December 7th – 11th; there will be labeled bins placed in front of the High School from 8:00am – 4:00pm each day. Please bring in your extra non-perishable food items (high need for peanut butter and cereal), and new toiletries. This holiday season is extra difficult for more families, and we want to do our best to support our community!

Winter Food Drive

COVID-19 Antibody Testing

The American Red Cross is testing all blood donations for COVID-19 antibodies. The antibody test is authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and will indicate if a donor’s immune system has produced antibodies to the virus, regardless of whether they ever showed symptoms.  Results will be available 7-10 days after donation.
