SHS Weekly Newsletter #23

Dear Bowmen Community,

Thank you for another wonderful week.  I continue to be so grateful for each of you.

Principal’s Message 2/26/2021

Melissa Baran

District’s Communication

Please see the latest communication from the Sherwood School District regarding:

  • Preparing to return to in-person hybrid instruction
  • Covid-19 symptom screening
  • Practicing Covid-19 prevention at school and at home
  • Travel advisory and spring break
  • School walk zone maps

Travel Advisory and Spring Break

Spring Break is just around the corner, and with the timing of our upcoming return to in-person instruction dates, we know many of our families and staff have questions about the statewide guidance for travel. Please note that it is recommended that people who are not vaccinated and who travel outside of the state of Oregon consider quarantining upon returning home. Per the Oregon Statewide Guidance for Travel, people are recommended to practice self-quarantine for 14 days after returning to Oregon following out-of-state travel, and limit their interactions to their immediate household. People may consider ending quarantine if they have had no symptoms after 10 days with no testing or after 7 days with an antigen or PCR test.

While the Sherwood School District is asking families and staff who travel over Spring Break to consider quarantining, schools will not be keeping track of travel plans, and it is ultimately up to individuals and families to make those decisions. If your family will be under quarantine, please contact your school’s office.

ACT Information

Sherwood High School will be hosting the ACT test in person for any interested junior students. The test will be offered from 8:00am-2:00pm on Tuesday, March 30th, Wednesday, March 31st and Thursday, April 1st.  *Students will only sign up for one date.

Interested students will sign up for the test on signup.com for their preferred date. The test will be administered in an on-line format. The deadline to register for the test is Friday, March 12th at midnight.

Athletics Information

Our Season 2 Athletics start Tuesday, March 2nd and we want to reinforce some of our policies that have been set by OSAA and the OHA guidelines:

  • All athletes must wear masks.
  • Athletes are required to check in with their coach at the beginning of every day they participate to complete a Covid survey.
  • Athletes are expected to attend their classes and will not be eligible to participate in practice/contests when the coach is notified of an unexcused absence.
  • Spectators are not allowed to stay on the premises and watch practices or competitions (OHA regulates the number of participants allowed per space).
  • Cameras have just been installed in the stadium and Main Gym, so games played in these areas will be broadcast through the NFHS Network (requires signing up for an account).  This is free of charge to our parents this year.   https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/944f74ab54.
  • Buses will be transporting our athletes to and from away games with reduced numbers allowed on each bus, per OHA guidelines.  Buses will pick up and drop off athletes along the upper stretch of bus lane (between the tennis courts and softball field), near the ticket booth. The parking lot closest to this area is accessible off Haide Rd.

As we continue to plan for reopening, it is essential that our Transportation Department begins to collect information about how students and families will utilize our buses.
