Oh my goodness we are getting close. The anticipation and excitement surrounding our reopening is palpable in a lot of ways! This communication is full of really important information about a variety of topics- please take some time to read/watch each section. As always, if you have any questions or need anything, please let us know.

Reopening/Quarter 4 Updates
We are only two short weeks away from reopening school for in-person instruction, which is just so very exciting. Below is an update on where we are in the process and what you can expect to see in the coming weeks:
- Students are assigned to cohorts based on last name (Cohort 1 is A-K and Cohort 2 is L-Z)
- There is not flexibility to change cohorts; we will accommodate families in the same household and ensure that they are in the same cohort
- We will be sending verification of instructional model choice next week
Student Orientation Week
We are excited to welcome students back to campus and want to provide an opportunity for orientation to the building as well as to COVID protocols. Please make sure to sign up, using this link, for a time slot to attend.
- Student Orientation is open to all students, regardless of instructional model choice
- Please sign up, using this link, for one spot per student on the assigned grade-level day. You may sign up with whomever you would like to attend, as long as there is space available.
- Students will be on campus for approximately one hour and will engage in a scavenger hunt/self-guided tour activity.
- Seniors: Jostens’ orders will be available for pick-up on Tuesday, 4/13 from 2-6pm. If you would like to just stop by and pick up your materials, you do not need to sign up for a time slot.
Course Selection (Formerly Forecasting) for the 2021-2022 School Year
In the midst of preparing for our reopening, we are also thinking about all that next year will bring. One of the big pieces of that is our Course Selection for the 2021-2022 school year.
- Course Selection for the 2021-2022 school year will occur the last week of April.
- Materials and information about the process will come out over the next two weeks. Please watch your email and Canvas accounts for that.
Unfortunately, we were unable to get student pictures taken for the yearbook but Dorian Studios has opened up a schedule for getting student pictures done for your own use. These pictures won’t make it into the yearbook but this is an opportunity for great portraits nevertheless. Dorian will be at SHS on Monday, April 19th, 10am-6pm. High School Return to In-Person Instruction Information
We are excited to share information about our return to in-person instruction plans. Below is a link to a website with as much information as we currently have. If there are additional questions, please feel free to contact us!
Riding Buses with Friends
In order to maintain our COVID-19 capacity limits and tend to contact tracing on buses, our Transportation Dept. will not have the ability at this time to allow extra bus riders to travel home with their friends after school. Previously, parents/guardians could send a note with their student requesting transportation to a friend’s house on a one-time basis. However, adjustments to transportation plans for this year have put most of our bus routes at full capacity with regular bus riders. This means we cannot guarantee space for additional students not already on a route list for the remainder of this school year. We apologize for any inconvenience, and will continue to review this process as guidance changes in the future.
Announcing National Silver Medalist
Natalie Pastores earned a National Silver Medal last week in the Scholastic Art Award Competition for her painting “I Would Get So Anxious That I Saw Ghosts.” Congratulations to this young artist!
Chromebook reminders for in-person instruction
-Fully charge your Chromebook each night
-Bring your charger to school each day
-Report any damage to your media center specialist or the technology hub immediately
-Visit the Technology Hub for any support
-Transport your device safely – keep liquids separate from your Chromebook, be gentle with your backpack when the Chromebook is inside
-Regularly restart your Chromebook by clicking on the clock and selecting the power button on the screen to shut down each night when finished with your work
-If you have not used your Chromebook in a while please login and check for updates.
-Open Chrome and click on the three dots at the upper righthand corner
-Select Help – About Google Chrome and follow the instructions on the page for updating your Chromebook manually
A message from Bookkeeper, Debi Bear
Student fees are tricky to pay during these times. You can either pay online through your parentvue account (unfortunately only works through a browser not the app) or by dropping a check off made payable to Sherwood High School at the front office. Please check your student’s balance online to be sure your check is made out for the correct amount and that your student’s name and what fees you are paying are written on the subject line. If your student shows a refund/credit please contact me. firstname.lastname@example.org Thank you.
Josten’s Cap and Gown Graduation Orders-Seniors-If you are planning on participating in the graduation ceremony this year, you are required to wear a Sherwood High School approved cap and gown. The order deadline has passed, but Josten’s is still accepting orders. Please call them asap to order your cap and gown. You can call toll-free to 1-800-JOSTENS (567-8367).
Parents of AP students
We have decided on our calendar of exams. This calendar was decided based on student input, teacher input, AP requirements, and additional graduation requirements. We have the space available for safe, in person exams – following all Oregon COVID protocols. Those are still changing so we cannot give you specific information on the location just yet.
Every exam (except Spanish) has a digital, at home option – this is called the 3rd administration. Any student not comfortable with an in person exam can opt for the 3rd administration. I need to be contacted directly if that is their choice. Also, any student who chooses Cloud Campus also has the option to take the exam in person if they would like. I will be sending out a bulk email to parents and students with more detailed information.

Showing Past Sparrow Support
Even though Vivian is our 2020-21 Sparrow, we always love to continue to show support to past Sherwood Sparrows as well! Our building shut down last year right around the time we were going to start T-shirt and bracelet sales to support our 2019-20 Sparrow, Ella. Through a monetary donation from Dr. Bittner of Bittner Dentistry for Kids, we are able to hand out the remaining T-shirts and bracelets for free!
If you would like a free t-shirt and/or bracelet, while supplies last, stop in at Supply Pick-Up at the High School on Tuesday 4/6 or Thursday 4/8 from 8 am-3:30 pm, to get some gear to show Ella our continued support as well!

April Can and Bottle Drive
This SATURDAY, APRIL 3RD is our monthly Can and Bottle Drive. If you would like to donate cans and bottles please click on the link to be added to the pickup schedule.
We are also in need of volunteers for the drive. If you would like to help please click on the signup genius link.
Remember for every hour your junior student volunteers they will be entered in to win a $1000 scholarship.
