Sherwood High School offers seven unique career pathways for students who show interest in exploring the respective career fields. The pathways are designed to give students a brief picture of the many options that are available to them within these careers.
Many students who achieve the career pathway may move on to majors in college or enter directly into the workforce where they will make a living wage after graduating from high school. These programs enable students to enhance their college and scholarship application, as well as build their skill set for employment by differentiating themselves from other similar candidates.

Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program
Over the Summer of 2024, Sherwood School District received approval to provide a registered Pre-Apprenticeship program for the students of Sherwood High School. If a student is interested in pursuing any of the trades post secondary, this is a fantastic opportunity for them to gain skills, experience and knowledge.
Pre-Apprenticeship programs provide:
An approved training curriculum. Learn fundamental skills specific to your industry to help you feel ready for an apprenticeship. Examples include basic hand tool and equipment operation, math and measuring, workplace harassment and discrimination training, and onsite safety.
Hands-on training. As an apprentice, you’ll be on the ground getting experience from skilled mentors in your field. A Pre-Apprenticeship prepares you for the next step in your career with a variety of experiences including simulated labs, field trips, and guest speakers.

What is Pre-Apprenticeship?
Pre-Apprenticeship programs are a great way to gain experience, build credentials, and prepare students with the skills to succeed in their chosen trade. Sherwood School District is proud to sponsor a CTE Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program (PATP). This opportunity is for high school students who have completed Welding 2 and have an interest in pursuing the trades after high school.
Pre-Apprenticeship creates a career path designed for a seamless transition for students into high-demand apprenticeships, ensuring they are well-prepared for the workforce and equipped with the skills needed for success in their chosen fields. The pre-apprenticeship completion moves the student directly onto the Exceptions List at Local 290- Plumber, Steamfitter, and HVACR Apprenticeship program. Thus, speeding the process up for a student to start their apprenticeship. If a student is pursuing an apprenticeship after high school (different from Local 290), completion of the Pre-Apprenticeship program will positively impact their application.
How to Complete the Pre-Apprenticeship:
Students who have successfully completed Welding 2 will be eligible to register for Pre-Apprenticeship. To fulfill the PATP requirement students must complete:
- Advanced Welding Techniques (Level 3) C or Better
- Metal Fabrication (Level 4) C or Better
- OSHA 10 – General Construction (Completed within the above courses)
- WorkKeys Training (Completed within the above courses)
